The French model and actress, who famously stripped naked in 2007 for an Italian ad campaign depicting the decidedly unglamorous and unhealthy effects of anorexia nervosa, died last month at 28 after "being sick for a long time," according to her acting coach.
Caro's longtime acting instructor, Daniele Dubreuil-Prevot, said she did not know the cause of death but that Caro "had been sick for a long time," referring to the actress-model's anorexia.

Isabelle Caro isn’t a face you’d know from her modeling career; it’s what she did after her life spiraled out of control that gained her fame. In 2007, Caro posed in a controversial photo shoot for photographer Oliviero Toscani in which she appeared nude while suffering from life-threatening anorexia. Weighing 70 pounds and standing 5’4, Isabelle Caro became the face of Toscani’s “No To Anorexia” campaign during Milan’s Fashion Week. While she fought off anorexia, model Isabelle Caro succumbed to acute respiratory disease and passed away at age 28.
Caro’s struggle with anorexia was literally half her life. Her symptoms first started showing up at age 13, and she fell into a coma in 2006 when her weight plunged to 55 pounds. Still, before her death, she had gained weight to a healthier 94 pounds and was showing signs of improvement. However, her body was too weak from years of abuse to withstand the ravages of the respiratory ailment that killed her. People have a messed-up relationship with food these days.
