The Wave Of The Future: E Cigarettes

There is a new item out for smokers called e cigarettes and they are touted as being a healthy alternative to tobacco based smoking products. They are considered to have approximately 4,000 less toxins than nicotine; all without the tar and ash so there is no waste and they are refillable so they will save individual's money.

These electronic cigarettes are a bit ultramodern in that they are guided by microelectronic technology. These smokes look, taste and feel as if a person is actually smoking a real cigarette although they are not ingesting the same chemicals they would be if they were smoking a tobacco based product.

The new electronic cigarettes are similar to the tobacco packed smokes in that they both allow an individual to puff on a filter and then produce a line of smoke into the air. However, with the new cigarettes, the smoke is a water based vapor and is nearly odorless.

The electronic cigarette is made up of a long lithium battery, a chip controller, an atomization chamber and a cartridge in addition to a small, red LED light at the end of the cigarette. The light lights up when a person takes a puff of their electronic cigarette so it seems as if there is a burning of tobacco.

There are nicotine cartridges, however many people are satisfied with the electronic cigarettes just as they are. The atomizer makes the vapor for when it is smoked; an individual will experience the fulfillment and actual sensation of smoking.

A person is able to refill these new cigarettes so there are no ashes, no smoke and no waste such as cigarette butts all about the ground. The refillable portion is the liquid that will produce the vapor and since refilling is cheaper than purchasing more, these cigarettes are a better value. In addition, the electronic cigarette is a great alternative for those who are tired of the chemicals or those who want to give up smoking.

One of the nice things about smoking the electronic cigarette over a tobacco based cigarette is there is no bad breath. The tar and carbon monoxide gas is gone and this combination is part of the reason for the 'smoker's breath' many people experience.

A smoker will spend less money on the starter kits then they would on a few packages of regular tobacco cigarettes so this makes the electronic cigarettes more economical. What is most expensive for smokers is not the elements that make up a cigarette, it's the state and local taxes that are added before they are purchased. These new cigarettes could be ordered online and sent to a persons address so there would be no extra taxes.

Because they contain no thick tar, harmful chemicals or toxins that could damage a person's lungs, the new e cigarettes are a healthy choice for smokers. They are the 'green' option for those who like to smoke but don't want all the waste of cigarette butts all over the place. People who want to make a fresh start for their health and the environment should take a look at the new way to smoke.

Google boss Eric Schmidt has labelled Wave, which the company just ditched, “a very clever product”.

“We'll get the benefit of Google Wave but it won't be as a separate product."

As recently as last week, Google was promoting a variety of time-related extensions for Google Wave, its real-time communication platform, on its Wave blog. On Wednesday, though, Wave's time ran out. That's when Google announced it has decided to stop development on Google Wave, a scant three months after making Wave available to the public.

Google described Google Wave as a product, protocol, and platform. Google has also made use of Wave's real-time collaboration technology, directly and indirectly, in other services, like Google Apps. The now-deceased Google Wave was an interesting idea, but the company never should have let developers control the conversation.

I still remember the wild enthusiasm Google Wave's introduction was met with at the company's I/O conference. Our very first headline about the service "Google Reinvents E-mail, Docs with Google Wave" summarized it pretty well. No, Wave wasn't replacing Gmail or Google Docs.

Meanwhile, the tech world had contracted a serious case of Google Wave-mania. Throughout the summer of 2009, Wave was invite-only. I think Brainstorming was always at the heart of Google Wave and probably why Google Developers dreamed the thing up in the first place.

In a classic PR lesson in face-saving, Schmidt tried to recast Wave’s failure as proof that the world’s largest ad broker was willing to live dangerously.

Developers are brilliant people. The Google Wave fiasco is actually just like the entire consumer robotics industry. Google can not be blamed for letting a Google Labs product out in public—they do it all the time.

Google Wave had potential, but I am glad Google finally recognizes that its biggest opportunities will be found inside more popular and more realistic applications. Emerging technology always comes with a learning curve.

Obama turns 49, but his wife and kids out of town

President Barack Obama is celebrating his 49th birthday today, August 4th! How will the Commander in Chief spend his birthday? Want to wish the President a happy birthday yourself? However, First lady Michelle Obama has taken their youngest daughter, Sasha, to Spain. Their other daughter, Malia, is away at summer camp.

Nevertheless, his supporters are busy making Aug. 4 a big day for the country by trying to turn the occasion into a kind of national celebration.

In an effort to drum up enthusiasm — and increase membership — the political operatives who run Organizing for America (OFA), an activist group devoted to the president, are set to stage hundreds of birthday parties around the country, giving Obama’s day of birth the feel of a holiday.

OFA members — there are said to be 13 million of them, but the organizers won’t release the count — can be activated by e-mail at a moment’s notice for political work on behalf of the president or his allies.

Obama is heading home to Chicago for a birthday celebration dinner Wednesday evening with friends. Meanwhile, the president's birthday – though a year shy of the Big 50 milestone – is being used in this election year as a prime fundraising opportunity for Democratic candidates and party organizations, through mailings, e-mails, parties and other birthday-themed outreach.

On Thursday, Obama will tour an auto plant in Chicago and attend Democratic fundraisers before returning to Washington.

Tropical Storm Colin forms in Atlantic, no immediate threat

Tropical Storm Colin is moving rapidly across the Atlantic but early forecasts put it on a track off the U.S. Atlantic seaboard rather than into the Gulf of Mexico, where BP is working to finally plug its blown-out oil well.

“The forecasts keep at as a tropical storm for the next five days and then it will begin to track northward. That would keep it about 600 miles east of Florida. It’s something we’ll want to keep an eye on,” said Tony Cristaldi, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

"The official forecast calls for modest strengthening during the next 36 hours followed by a leveling off of intensity thereafter," the hurricane center forecasters said.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm has maximum sustained winds near 40 mph (65 kph) Tuesday and some slow strengthening is expected.

The storm had top sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph) and was centered 945 miles (1,525 km) east of the Lesser Antilles. It was moving west to west-northwest on a path that could take it well east of the Bahamas by the weekend.

Colin is the third tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.

The storm was expected to keep away from the Gulf of Mexico, where U.S. oil and natural gas operations are concentrated and where BP Plc (BP.L)(BP.N) is working to permanently seal a ruptured oil well that caused the biggest offshore spill in U.S. history.

It was too early to know whether Colin could eventually threaten the U.S. East Coast.

Three Killed in a Cargo Plane Crash in Alaska's Denali Park

A Fairchild C-123 Provider cargo plane belonging to All West crashed at Denali Park (Alaska) Sunday at about 3 p.m.. The National Park Service said all three people on board are believed dead.
The plane crashed into the south-facing slope of Mount Healy within a mile of the park headquarters and about 200 yards north of the only road into the park, about 180 miles north of Anchorage.
Mount Healy, 5,417 feet high, is about 60 miles northeast of the towering Mount McKinley, North America's highest peak at 20,320 feet.

Federal investigators headed to Alaska's Denali National Park today to probe a cargo plane crash that apparently killed three people and sparked a small wildfire., which was contained at approximately one acre.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators are to arrive Monday.

Jeff Kowalczyk, an EMT hiking through the park with his wife, a nurse, told CNN he saw the plane almost upside down as it crashed a few hundreds yards away. The couple rushed toward the site but were kept back by the fire, he said.

"The whole experience was really surreal," Kowalczyk said.
Sunday's crash came days after a military cargo plane crash in Alaska killed four people on board. The crash Wednesday at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage killed four airmen training for an air show.
